19 Days. Leaving it all on the field.

Folks writing postcards: a common sight at the local Democratic Party county headquarters.

When I started this campaign, I knew we had an uphill battle. TX-10 is a sprawling, Republican-leaning district that most political observers had written off before we even started. We haven’t had the big donors, national backing, or resources that typically fuel a competitive congressional campaign. Sitting members of the Texas delegation have declined to support us because our race is “too hard.”

But what we did have was a belief that the people of our district deserved a choice. So, we built a competitive campaign ourselves, informed by what we heard from the people who live here.

We’ve knocked on tens of thousands of doors, sent thousands of handwritten postcards, and built a volunteer network stretching from western Travis County to East Texas. And we’ve done it with a small, strategic, and scrappy team and a lot of grit.

This is what a grassroots campaign looks like. It’s volunteers giving up their weekends to knock doors, retirees writing postcards at their kitchen tables, county party leaders driving hours to deliver signs.

It hasn’t been easy. We’ve had to stretch every dollar and work twice as hard to get attention in a district that wasn’t supposed to be competitive. Finally, people are starting to notice. The Austin American-Statesman endorsed our campaign. WIRED named TX-10 its number one race to watch nationally. We’ve earned support from organizations across the political spectrum, reflecting the independent, service-over-party approach we’ve championed from day one.

Now, it’s go time. We have 19 days to turn everything we’ve built into votes. Here’s how you can help (sign up to volunteer here):

  • Knock doors or lit drop. We’re working to reach as many voters as possible. Do an hour every day in your neighborhood, gather friends to lit drop an apartment complex, or come to our organized block walks.

  • Write postcards. Help us reach thousands of voters in apartments, gated communities, and other hard-to-access areas.

  • Chip in. Every dollar helps us reach more voters through mail, digital advertising, and our field operation.

  • Spread the word. Text your community about our campaign, talk to your neighbors, and make sure your friends and family have a plan to vote.

One of the most meaningful parts of this experience has been seeing just how many people are willing to give their time, energy, and resources to something bigger than themselves. I’m deeply grateful to our volunteers, fellows, staff, county parties, donors, and every person who’s opened their door or shared their story with us; it’s been a great privilege.

We may be the sleeper race that the pundits and decision-makers have overlooked, but we haven’t sat around waiting for them to notice. We’ve been doing the work and showing up, and with less than three weeks to go, we need everyone who’s believed in our campaign to help us finish what we started.

I don’t want to wake up on November 4 wondering what more we could have done, and I hope you don’t either.

Nineteen days. Let’s leave it all on the field.
